Program Review – Downline Builder Direct

Less than 2 weeks into my professional blogging career and I am already having a hard time coming up with things to write about. Go figure.

That’s not really true. I actually have plenty of things to write about. The problem is that many of the people who are reading my blog at this point already know about those things. Why waste my time writing about something nobody wants to read about?

Since part of this blog is intended to write reviews of sites, software, and ebooks I decided to pick a fairly new site that I have seen advertised, join it, and write a review on it. To make it a little more interesting I picked a site that I probably wouldn’t normally join to hopefully force me to give a more objective opinion.

This site I picked is called “Downline Builder Direct“. It’s a free list-builder site that claims to be the quick and easy way to build an opt-in list of 100,000 subscribers. The way it works is that when you refer new members to the site they go into your downline and you can email them your ads. When those people refer new members those people also go into your downline and you can send emails to them as well. This continues down 20 levels. So if everybody refers just 2 or 3 people you can see your list grow exponentially without having to do a lot of work.

The problem with these types of programs is that the time you spend promoting them is probably better spent building your list the old fashioned way with your own squeeze pages and your own autoresponder. Yes, you can mail more people with a program like Downline Builder Direct but the majority of those people don’t know who you are. You haven’t built a relationship with them through your own promotional efforts so really they just see you as somebody sending them advertisements. You are also limited by how often you can send your emails to these people and if the site ever closes, well there goes all your work.

I knew all this going in but decided to check it out anyways.

Turns out that the number of people you can email with Downline Builder Direct is not limited by the number of people you refer. In fact, as soon as you join you have the option to email 200 random members or your downline (whichever is larger) for free. You can then email 200 random members every month without spending a dime or referring a single member. Not too shabby.

Downline Builder Direct also offers a few upgraded membership options that lets you email more random members more often. There is even a one time offer at sign-up that gives you a lifetime “Diamond” membership which lets you email 20,000 random members every two days. Of course when I joined tonight there were only about 7,000 members but the next highest membership level under “Diamond” only lets you email 2,000 members every three days… and that costs $19.97/mo. That means with the lifetime “Diamond” membership you can pretty much email the entire membership every two days for as long as you want without having to worry about monthly fees. Not really a bad deal if you think about it.

Downline Builder Direct isn’t stingy with their referral commissions either. All members, regardless of membership levels, earn 50% commissions on all purchases made by their direct referrals. That means even free members can make some decent money promoting the site.

Overall I guess I am pretty impressed with Downline Builder Direct. I am not expecting to grow my downline to 100,000 members anytime soon but I will take advantage of the ability to send my ads to random members and depending on the response will probably try one of the upgraded memberships.

Traffic Success Formula – Best Book Ever?

It was only a matter of time before I got around to writing a review of the best internet marketing book ever!

Ok, I may be a little biased since I am the author of this book. It might not be the “best book ever” but it’s gotta be at least in the top 3.

I wrote Traffic Success Formula because it is a topic I know a lot about. I have been clicking away on traffic exchanges and safelists for over 5 years now. I don’t claim to be an expert but during that time I would like to think I have learned a few tricks that can be helpful to other marketers.

Over the last few years I have looked at quite a few ebooks promising to show me how to get more traffic for my sites. I’d usually skim through the obvious stuff at the beginning and go right for the “secret” at the end. I was almost always disappointed.

I created Traffic Success Formula to be the ebook I always wanted to read. This is the book I wish I had 5 years ago! I do my best to explain my techniques so that novice marketers can follow along but I also try to include some advanced stuff that I think more experienced marketers will appreciate.

Traffic Success Formula is not another generic report that was thrown together in a few hours. I did my best to try and make this a product that I am proud to distribute. It is a fully brandable ebook which means you can replace all the affiliate links in it with your own and give it away as you see fit.

I hope you enjoy it!

If you have any comments or suggestions on the book feel free to post them here. I’m also looking for more testimonials so if you would like to submit one you can do that as well.

Twittering and Tweeting

Ok, I am just about happy with where my blog is now.

I have been hearing about “Twitter” for awhile now and when I heard about this cool plug-in called “Tweet My Blog” I knew I had to try it… but do I really want to put myself on Twitter?

Too late. It’s done!

If you want to “follow me” and get notified every time I scratch my butt check out My Twitter Profile.

Now that my Twitter account is all setup the first thing I did was to get a copy of “Tweet My Blog“. This is a really cool plug-in that links to the Twitter network that sends an update every time you post a new blog. This will be my first time trying it so it’s pretty exciting to say the least.

If you have a blog of your own and you use Twitter check out Tweet My Blog.

Now We’re Cooking With Gas!

I decided to give up on that other WordPress theme. It was so nice but it was just way too buggy. I don’t know how many hours I wasted uninstalling it and reinstalling it only to be constantly plagued with errors.

I settled on this theme instead called “HeyLucy”. Silly name, but after much searching it seems to have everything I want and is easy to read.

So today I have been digging into the widgets and plug-ins, which is really the whole reason why I want my own blog. I have installed 6 new plug-ins in the last 2 hours and I am really starting to like the look of my blog.

Now I just need some content!

Eh, I can do that later. Ideally I want to get Twitter and Tweet by Blog on here but I want to tweak a few more things before I dive into that. Not to mention I have a ton of other stuff I need to be doing. Plus, it’s Monday which means I am doing lights tonight so I probably won’t be as productive as I need to be today (or probably tomorrow if tonight is anything like last week). We’ll see how it goes.

My First Major WordPress Problem

I haven’t even gotten started with my new blog yet and I already ran into a major snag.

Like my new theme? It’s called “illacrimo” and I like it. I tried out a few others but so far I like this one the best. Hopefully it will still be installed when you read this.

So I have been trying to install the “askimet” plug-in to stop comment spam… not that I have had any comments yet but I thought that would be a good first plug-in to try. It worked fine until it asked for my WordPress API Key. Since this blog is run on my own server I don’t have a WordPress account (at least one that still works) so I had to register again. For some reason the sign-up form wasn’t working and I had to email support. They registered for me and I received my email confirmation link. That link didn’t work either. So I emailed support again and they fixed it. Swell, I am an official WordPress user!

I was very excited to get rid of the askimet error message that kept asking me for my API key so armed with my new key I headed straight for my WP Admin page.

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at…

Or something like that. WTF? Everything was working fine until I registered at

A few Google searches turned up showing this was a VERY common error message usually resulting in extra characters being placed at the end of one of the php files.

I just spent the last few hours editing php files and really getting to know my blog. Of course nothing worked. I traced it back to possibly being an issue with the illacrimo theme. All those php files looked fine so I was kinda stumped. I ended up just renaming the illacrimo folder, which temporarily made my blog vanish, but I was able to login to the admin area no problem. From there I just reselected the theme and now everything is working again.

Sorta.. I am noticing the error message is showing up on the right side of the screen under the “Save/Publish” links. Lame.

Oh well, hopefully it will go away or hopefully it’s not that serious.

PS – The damn thing didn’t let me save my post. I just switched to another theme. Glad I thought to copy the contents of this post first. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
